Hi everyone,
I wanted to share something that’s been on my mind. The other day, a few of us from work went out for lunch. As people finished, they headed back to the office one by one, until it was just me and a female colleague left at the table.
Instead of leaving right away, we decided to stay for a cup of coffee. We just talked about life and work—nothing inappropriate, no flirting, and definitely no physical touch. At the time, it felt like a normal social interaction.
But now, I have this lingering feeling of guilt. Is spending that kind of one-on-one time with another woman, without my wife knowing, a subtle breach of trust? Or am I just overthinking a simple coffee?
I’d love to hear your thoughts. Is this an innocent moment or a boundary I shouldn't have crossed?
@jack-london Stop deluding yourself. Choosing to stay behind when the others left wasn't an accident; it was a deliberate choice.
If your wife had been sitting across from you, that coffee wouldn't have tasted quite so sweet, would it? Your conscience is prickling because you know perfectly well you've overstepped the mark. Don't hide behind 'innocence.' Betrayal begins exactly like this—at the bottom of a 'harmless' cup of coffee.
You are treading on very thin ice. Either steer yourself back home immediately, or at least have the decency to be honest.
Look Olivia, life isn't as black and white as you make it out to be. I’m not a monster; I’m just a man.
Choosing to stay for a chat when the others left doesn't make me a traitor. I haven't abandoned my post or my home. I simply shared a human moment over a cup of coffee in a mechanical world. If loyalty is a shack so flimsy that it collapses over a single drink, then it was never loyalty to begin with.
I am still at my hearth, Olivia. But I won't let you cast me out just because I took ten minutes to breathe.
